Sophie Bear

A Holiday away ...

Sophie goes on holiday (again...)

The next day they decided to go shopping in Newcastle by train. On the way they passed a big statue. "What's that?", asked Sophie. It's the "Angel of the North". It's very big! You can just see a person standing by the bottom of it in her picture.

They caught the train from the Metro Centre into Newcastle City Centre. It was very cheap and was just like a bus!

They did lots of shopping in Newcastle, had lunch and saw the Tyne Bridge (anyone see Byker Grove?)!

Miss Wellsbury wanted to go and see Grandma so they drove across the country from Newcastle the next day. Grandma lives near Chester, which is a very old Roman town. On the way over they spotted lots of bits of wall by the road. "What's that?", asked Sophie. "It's Hadrian's Wall." said Miss Wellsbury, "it was built by the Romans a long time ago".Sophie went and stood on it and pretended to be a Roman Soldier!

They caught the ferry over Lake Windermere. It's a little ferry that takes 18 cars and pulls itself along with chains across the lake.

After shopping in Hawkshead and Ambleside they stopped in Grasmere to buy some special gingerbread. Yum Yum

It was dark when they arrived at the hotel so Sophie went to bed with Gerald, Harry and Clara. Miss Wellsbury went out for dinner.

The next morning Sophie looked out of the windows to see what was going on. You can see her eating a biscuit and looking at the hotel's swimming pool and gym.

Up the hill from the hotel is "Ashness Bridge". It's a very famous pretty bridge that many people like to paint. Sophie wasn't very impressed because there was no chocolate to eat there! You can see her sitting by the bridge and the picture she took underneath it. What a nice view.

Be careful Sophie - you might slip into the water!

Then all that remained was the long drive down to see Grandma and the drive back down home.

"Phew", said Sophie, "that was tiring - but I enjoyed it!" as she fell asleep on the sofa back at home!
